Orlando Suero was more than a photographer — he was a quiet force behind some of the most intimate and enduring images of American icons. From the Kennedy family’s unguarded moments to rare portraits of Sharon Tate, Eartha Kitt, and Adam West, Suero had the rare ability to dissolve the barrier between subject and camera, capturing not just appearances but essence.

Born to Cuban and Mexican parents in Manhattan’s Washington Heights, Suero’s life was as textured as his work. A WWII Marine Corps veteran and Purple Heart recipient, he returned from service with a deepened perspective — one that would inform his decades-long photographic journey. His approach was rooted in trust, respect, and patience, which helped him produce images that felt timeless rather than staged.

This year marks what would have been Orlando Suero’s centennial, and in celebration, OCAG is proud to present a rotating exhibition of his photographs at the Hilton Anaheim. Curated by Britt Samuels Jr. and made possible through generous sponsorship by Susan Shieldkret and David Dull, this exhibition offers a rare glimpse into Suero’s archives — many of the images shown have never been seen by the public until now.

In a world saturated with snapshots, Suero’s work reminds us of the power of true portraiture. He gave us more than photographs — he gave us memory, emotion, and authenticity through the lens of one man’s extraordinary vision.

Join us at Hilton Anaheim to experience the legacy of Orlando Suero. Select works are available for purchase at OCAG.org.
